Why You Should Roast Your Own Coffee

Billions of people around the world enjoy coffee, but many do not understand why they should roast their own coffee rather than simply buying it at the store. It would seem to be a waste of time, and they have no problem with the coffee they drink regularly. I once thought the same thing. However, after I drank a cup of freshly-roasted coffee for the first time, I knew there was no going back. I would like to take a moment to talk about the benefits.

Health

You may have heard that drinking a cup of coffee a day has health benefits. This statement has a lot of truth to it. When it comes to health benefits, coffee has a number of them. Much of these benefits are lost when the beans lose their freshness, which is why fresh roasted coffee is the best way to get the full benefits from drinking a cup each morning. Here are a few of the health benefits:

These are just a few of the many health benefits that coffee consumption has been showed to have. However, most of these benefits are lost with coffee that is not freshly roasted, which is why fresh roasted coffee is the best way to enjoy it.

Taste

The taste, of course, is the most important part. It is difficult to describe how much better the taste of fresh roasted coffee is. Coffee beans lose their freshness after roughly a week after roasting. In essence, after that time, the beans “die,” in a sense, losing the freshness and fullness of their taste. They also lose the majority of the health benefits that come with coffee, as I mentioned above. Most of the coffee you buy was roasted months before, which means it has lost all of that.

Fresh roasted coffee has a fuller, fresher, richer taste. The flavor profile is entirely present in fresh roasted coffee, while it begins to lose it as the roasted beans get older. I find that roasting a week’s worth of coffee is the best way to make sure I have the best coffee each day.
